The 12th edition of the Chitra Santhe, organised by the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, reportedly received applications from 1,500 artists spread across 18 states in India, from which 1,200 were shortlisted. One of the aims of the festival is to popularise art as a way of life, make art available at affordable prices, and inspire creativity all around. The pan-India event has drawn artistes from 20 to 80 years of age. Other comparable events are the Kaala Ghoda Arts Festival (Mumbai) and Nandan Mela (Santiniketan).
Through a mix of collages and close-ups, this photo collection highlights the diversity of Indian art, ranging from natural depiction to the abstract, from the sensuous to the spiritual. Stay tuned for Part III of this photo essay next week!
